In arrays of wind turbines, the performance of downstream turbines ishindered significantly by the wake of those upstream. This research projectfocuses on investigating potential methods for wake control using aerofoils, inorder improve the performance of the whole array. The project will involveexperiments using the Markham wind tunnel and scaled-down wind farms andaerofoils. It will also involve developing a theoretical model to describe theinteractions between the turbines, which will be used to create simulations ofthe atmosphere. This project has the potential to improve the lifetime andefficiency of wind farms, making the global transition to renewable energymore economically viable.
