This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of utilizing postprandial glucose measurements in addition to the conventional preprandial and bedtime glucose measurements to adjust the insulin doses to optimize glycemic control in patients with diabetes mellitus type 1 on basal bolus insulin therapy. This is a pilot study to determine the patients' willingness to participate and use the glucose sensor and to test and optimize insulin dose adjustment algorithms.
The purpose of this study is to determine how important it is to use post-meal blood sugar measurement in addition to the conventional pre-meal and bedtime blood sugar measurements to adjust insulin doses in order to achieve better blood sugar control in patients with diabetes mellitus type 1.
