项目摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
This study will provide clinical resources for the Clinical and Biostatistics Core of a multicenter Program Project that is comprised of three projects investigating the genetic and biochemical aspects of IgA nephropathy. The program Project will enroll about 1515 participants, but only about 1000 at UAB. About 550 of the UAB participants will be seen in the GCRC for their single physician visit, while about 450 UAB participants will be seen during field trips at physician offices outside of Birmingham. The other 515 participants will be seen by investigators in Tennessee and Kentucky.
The Specific Aims of this study are:
1. Measure blood pressure, height, and weight for participants seen in the UAB GCRC.
2. Collect venous blood and urine samples during the one outpatient visit for the participants seen at UAB GCRC.
3. Perform urinalysis, serum creatinine concentration, and urinary protein and creatinine concentrations for all 1515 participants using blood and urine samples either collected in the UAB GCRC or by UAB investigators during field trips, or sent from participating outside centers.
4. Establish EBV-transofrmed cell lines for some participants, to be selected by the investigators based upon their potential to contribute to the genetic studies of familial IgA nephropathy.
The findings from this Program Project will substantially increase the understanding of the pathogenesis of a common renal disease and may be the foundation for future development of a disease-specific therapy.
