Introduction: Our aim was to determine whether liposomal formulations of short interfering RNA are able to be absorbed by cervicovaginal mucosa in vivo after their local instillation. Methods: The menstrual cycle of the animals were synchronized with progesterone. Two weeks later, we complexed siRNA targeting CCR5 with liposomes. Cervicovaginal tissue was evaluated at variable intervals after administration. We are now assessing CCR5 expression by IHC and PCR. Baseline samples will be compared with those obtained after treatment.
