This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. OBJECTIVE: This project has the specific goal of developing a digital probabilistic reference system for the human brain. Subjects from the parent protocol will be invited to enroll in this protocol. The purpose of the proposed study is to obtain normative PET FDG data, which will benefit other studies doing FDG PET in disease states. RESEARCH PLAN AND METHODS: Fifty subjects from the parent protocol will be invited to enroll in this PET imaging protocol. Subjects will have a FDG PET. Scans are expected to take 1.5-2 hours. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: This proposal is a supplement to a NIH funded P20 in its ninth year of funding. The first five years acquired anatomical data on subjects ages 18-40. The current funding cycle is acquiring anatomical and functional data on subjects over 40. The parent protocol is acquiring functional activation data. The current proposed protocol seeks to obtain resting state glucose metabolism to determine neuronal density. The preliminary data that will be acquired in this study will be used in a grant submission to the NIH aging institute.
