This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to test the following hypotheses: 1. Women rowers have greater bone density than women runners. 2. Open weight rowers have greater bone density than lightweight rowers. 3. There is a positive correlation with volume and intensity of rowing and bone density. 4. In the absence of amenhorrhea, rowers and runners do not have alterations in growth factors or markers of bone resorption compared to age matched controls.
