This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The aim of this study is to define efficacious therapies for prevention of stroke recurrence and cognitive decline in patients with symptomatic small subcortical stroke. The hypothesis is that combined antiplatelet therapy will reduce recurrent stroke by 25% relative to aspirin therapy along. Aggressive blood pressure lowering will reduce recurrent stroke by 25% relative to usual management.
