INFLUENZA IMMUNITY: PROTECTIVE MECHANISMS AGAINST A PANDEMIC RESPIRATORY VIRUS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. A Phase IV, single-center, open-label study of the immune responses of young children to inactivated vaccine given intramuscularly (IM). Subjects will be randomized to having their second blood draw taken either: a) 10 days after the first injection, or b) 10 days after the second injection. A subset will be followed with weekly nasal swabs to be analyzed for Pandemic Respiratory Virus (PCR) evidence of influenza virus during the local influenza season following immunization and diary cards for flu symptoms.
