This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. It is hypothesized that pregnant women have significantly elevated total and free cortisol levels and plasma aldosterone concentrations (in comparison to non-pregnant women), and that these levels will increase as pregnancy progresses. It is hypothesized that there will be an increased responsiveness of the adrenal glands to synthetic ACTH in pregnancy, and that particularly free cortisol response to synthetic ACTH will increase as prenancy progresses.
