This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. 2.1 Study Hypotheses Proteomic evaluation of the serum and plasma of healthy postmenopausal women before and after initiating HRT will test the hypothesis that proteins are differentially expressed as a result of exogenous HRT administration. The hypothesis that proteins are differentially expressed between groups treated with estrogen-only versus those treated with combination (CEE + MPA) HRT will also be tested. 2.2 Specific Aims " To define the protein catalogue of serum and plasma of healthy postmenopausal women before and after initiation of HRT. " To use differential analysis to identify serum and plasma proteins expressed as a function of exposure to HRT, by comparing: o Within the group of women, before and one month after initiation of HRT, and o Between two groups of women, stratified by use of estrogen-only versus combination HRT regimens.
