英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. A critical need for CANHR is to develop and expand funded research with strong support in scientific study design, conduct, and analysis. The Epidemiology and Bioinformatics (EB) Core provides both scientific and technical resources for the research projects through consultation and training, study design or database (DB) development, sample size/power estimates, and data analyses. In addition, the EB Core offers ¿technical support,¿ such as computer hard/software, data entry, and fieldwork preparation. Year five accomplishments include: A. Establishment of four databases for data from the three research projects and the participant feedback evaluation. To increase security and access to the research data over the web by researchers, we are in the process of changing from an Access database to one using sql. B. The development of ¿utility programs¿ allows us to easily merge and transfer data for statistical analysis. The availability of functioning databases, utility programs, and the additional recruitment of a master's level statistician make it feasible to continuously perform routine biostatistical analyses for reports and provide statistical expertise for the analysis of the research data. C. Conducted and managed data collection efforts (village orientation, recruitment, and data collection) in one new village. Second wave data collection was conducted in three of our original villages. These efforts involved close collaboration with local field research assistants and village leaders/elders. D. Dissemination of preliminary research findings to the traditional council and community members in one village. Individual laboratory results and other health measures were disseminated via letters to participants, with a health professional available in the community for consultation. Preliminary research findings were also presented in Bethel to the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation and village leaders at the annual Tribal Gathering. Current efforts: Data analyses for dissemination, preliminary results for grant applications, scientific articles, linkage analyses of extended pedigrees. In addition, the EB Core provides statistical consulting for grant applications. Data collection efforts in two new villages are being conducted.
