ACUTE EFFECTS OF SIMPLE CARBOHYDRATE INTAKE ON MOOD AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IN

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The goal of this study is to evaluate the acute effects of two diets, (one comprised of simple carbohydrates, while the other emphasizes complex carbohydrates), on mood and physical activity in Latina girls. Overweight Latina middle school girls will be referred for study inclusion and will receive labs and survey material followed by either a SCHO or CCHO meal followed by followup labs and survey materials. After a 7-day washout period the subject will crossover to the other meal and repeat the procedures. GCRC will be utilized for vital signs, laboratory studies, nutrition services, and dexa scans.
