英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. In the past decade, there has been an increasing awareness of the importance of providing group housing for nonhuman primates used in biomedical research. However, it can be difficult to gain access to group-housed monkeys for husbandry or research procedures. Training animals to voluntarily cooperate with these procedures can make group housing a viable option. The main objective of this pilot project is to demonstrate that training experimental rhesus macaques to cooperate with husbandry and/or research procedures so that they can live in social groups is a viable option at the ONPRC. In addition, this proposal examines factors (e.g., temperament and dominance) that may influence a subject's ability to be trained.
