This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. Beam Line 12-2 is a new, in-vacuum undulator based, high-brightness, state-of-the-art macromolecular crystallography beam line that is optimized for the study of microcrystals, weakly diffracting systems such as membranes and large complexes, and for other demanding scientific projects. The beam line was funded by a gift from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation in a collaboration between the California Institute of Technology and SSRL, and will provide 60% general user access. As part of the beam line commissioning, the beam was characterized and the stability of the optics were measured. A new pitch feedback monitor was implemented to stabilize the beam. The hutch infrastructure was installed and tested. Test data were collected by staff and commissioning user groups from Caltech also collected test data sets from their samples.
