SMB BEAM LINE UPGRADES

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This project is for upgrading the SMB beam lines at SSRL to enable users to take benefit of the SPEAR3 accelerator upgrade, which will increase the current to 500 mA, at lower emittance while maintaining the long beam life times. Beam Line 7 was commissioned and beam brought into stations BL7-1 (macromolecular crystallography) and BL7-3 (x-ray absorption spectroscopy), with first data sets measured. The Beam Line 9 upgrade was completed and the general user schedule resumed on all three stations (macromolecular crystallography and x-ray absorption sepctroscopy). Advanced planning and assembly of subsystems took place for the BL4-2 upgrade (small angle x-ray scattering).
