The ultimate goal of the proposed project is development of codes and standards in Canada and the Netherlands for safe utilization of hydrogen. The short term objective of the project is to design two research facilities (a high pressure combustion chamber and a rapid compression machine) in Canada and the Netherlands for hydrogen combustion/detonation tests. The Canadian team includes professors at UBC with expertise in the area of experimental combustion and numerical simulations; and, the international collaborator is an expert in the area of combustion chemistry. The proposed team features complementary expertise and is well-posed and well equipped to address not only the short term objective of this project, but also its overarching goal. The project involves a postdoctoral fellow who will visit the University of Groningen for a duration of two months, and will engage with the international team for 12 months. The applicants of this proposal have considered diversity for hiring of the postdoctoral fellow and will continue to include also equitable and inclusive hiring in their research programs. The total requested budget is $25000 CAD. The international collaborator will match this through their in-kind contributions.
