项目摘要

Project Summary/Abstract The American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) is proposing to manage a meeting in September 2023, as part of the NIA-funded Small Research Grant Program for the Next Generation of AD/ADRC Research. The NIA funds the research of early career investigators, as well as investigators who are new to the field of Alzheimer’s disease research. All areas of research are considered, including basic, translational and patient-oriented research in disciplines relevant to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Investigators must budget travel to the meeting in their awards. Through the annual meetings and other activities, investigators can better exchange information and network more effectively. The meetings provide each investigator with access to colleagues who are working on similar scientific issues related to Alzheimer’s disease, though often in different disciplines. This proposed meeting will allow current and former grantees to: 1. foster collaboration with other grantees; 2. nurture and develop a collective identity; 3. support career development and promote leadership skills that help grantees become independent investigators and become the next generation of leaders in AD/ADRD; 4. better exchange research information and network more effectively; 5. provide access to colleagues from different disciplines who are working on similar scientific issues related to AD/ADRD; 6. receive mentorship from nationally recognized academic leaders who can guide the grantees’ research and career development; and 7. provide access to organizations, programs, and colleagues that can foster the grantees’ growth and development.
