英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The goal of this study is to determine whether HIV-infected children have evidence of an immunization response to pneumococcal, hepatitis B virus (HBV) and measles vaccine 3-4 years after vaccination. In a previous study - P1024 (SPID #1071) - HIV-infected children received pneumococcal, HBV and MMR vaccines and experienced a response at 18 months, with declining titers. In this follow-up study approximately 149 subjects, up to a maximum of 224 subjects, will be studied. The study population will consist of HIV-infected subjects ages 6 to 23 years old (at screen/entry) who enrolled into P1024 between 6/1/01 and 3/31/02 while receiving HAART and completed the initial two-year P1024 study period. The study will evaluate children who lost immunity from the first study and those who convert from negative antibody to positive antibody after a booster vaccination. These findings will be correlated with HIV RNA and CD4 levels. This study is of highly significant clinical importance. Children with HIV are at higher risk to develop complications from these diseases and there is a need to know the durability of the vaccines and if boosters are needed.
