英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This is a multicenter trial of the Pediatric ACTG to examine the prevalence of morphologic and metabolic abnormalities in children and adolescents who acquired HIV infection vertically, in relation to HIV-uninfected children. It is a cross-sectional study to examine glucose metabolism, lipid levels, body composition, fat deposition and bone density. An important variable will be the nature of the antiretroviral (ARV) regimen (whether including protease inhibitor or not). Subjects will be stratified by Tanner stage. Anticipated involvement at NYU is 40 subjects x 3 outpatient visits. This is a very important study due to the increasing evidence of abnormalities and the need to diagnose and intervene.
