This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Studies of dietary prophylaxis in newborns at high risk for atopic disease, and provocation of skin symptoms and immunologic changes by blinded food challenges strongly suggest a significant pathogenic role for IgE-mediated FH in AD. The purpose of this research is to more precisely define the natural history and immunopathogenic mechanisms of food hypersensitivity (FH) in children with atopic dermatitis (AD).
