SWITCH OF ANTIRETROVIRAL THERAPY BASED ON HIV RESISTANCE GENOTYPING

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. In this randomized, controlled trial, HIV-infected patients who failed their High Active Antiretroviral Therapy HAART will be offered individual treatment selection based on best clinical judgment and genotypic HIV-RNA resistance analysis. Patients who meet entry criteria will be randomized to receive 3TC plus salvage regimen versus no 3TC with salvage regimen. HIV-RNA load will be measured frequently after initiation of the therapy to determine virologic response.
