NEUROLOGICAL PREDICTORS OF HUNTINGTON DISEASE (PREDICT-HD)

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Onset of disease is a vital outcome measure for therapeutic trials involving healthy persons who are at known risk for manifesting disease. The primary aim of this project is to characterize neurobiological and neurobehavioral markers of Huntington Disease (HD) prior to the development of clinically manifest motor symptoms. Subjects will be men and women ages 30-55 who are at risk for HD by virtue of having an affected parent and who have undergone genetic testing for HD (425 with CAG repeat > 39 and 75 with a CAG repeat < 30). Subjects will be examined once a year for 4 years. Assessment will include a neurological examination, extensive neurophyschological testing, psychological assessment, and magnetic resonance imaging.
