ASSESSMENT MEASURES FOR ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE PRIMARY PREVENTION TRIALS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The two main goals of this research project are to test the effectiveness of the questionnaires to be used in this trial and to reduce the cost of running a prevention trial. The Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS) has been a pioneer in developing clinical assessments and instruments that are currently used in clinical studies in patients with memory complaints, MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment) and in healthy elderly. The new or improved measures and questionnaires that have been developed by the ADCS will be used in 650 healthy, non-demented elderly. Investigators aim to find out whether these questionnaires will be sensitive to detect changes in normal aging or early signs of Alzheimer's disease. These instruments in turn will be implemented in future Alzheimer's Disease primary prevention studies.
