Study 1 proposes to examine ADOLESCENT ASSENT in the context of an actual pediatric asthma clinical trial. We will compare an "assent as usual" intervention to an "autonomy enhanced assent intervention that emphasizes adolescent participation in the decision-making process. We will further examine whether the autonomy enhanced assent intervention results in increased perception voluntary participation and greater adherence to the clinical protocol.
