TRIAL OF SIMVASTATIN TO SLOW THE PROGRESSION OF ALZEIMER'S DISEASE

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to determine the safety,tolerability and effectiveness of Simvastatin in lowering cholesterol levels and treating or slowing the progression of AD when compared to a placebo. Simvastatin is a Food and Drug Association approved drug used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood, treat heart conditions and reduce the risk of heart attack,stroke and death. The use of Simvastatin for Alzheimer's Disease is experimental. Ten to fifteen subjects from this facility are expected to participate in this study.
