MESA FAMILY STUDY

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study will examine the effectiveness of a Recollection Training technique that has proven highly successful in healthy older adults (e.g., Jennings & Jacoby, in press) with individuals classified as having Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). MCI individuals will be screened to exclude those with conditions that may prevent memory enhancement, such as thyroid problems, and 50 healthy MCI participants will then receive either 2 weeks of Recollection Training (training group) or will work with self-instructional materials (control group). Memory and cognitive functioning will be assessed at baseline, 1 week after training, and 6 months later to assess the success of the training group relative to the control group, generalization of any training effects, and maintenance of gains.
