英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
To determine the effectiveness of a cultured dairy drink with high concentrations of active Lactobacillus casei to reduce illnesses in daycare or school children ages 3 to 6.
Objectives:
o To determine effectiveness of a cultured dairy drink with high concentrations of active L.casei to decrease the cumulative rate of common infectious diseases.
o To determine the effectiveness of a cultured dairy drink with high concentrations of active L. casei to reduce days of total illnesses, resulting in change of behavior, in daycare or school children ages 3 to 6.
o Additional outcomes will include total diarrhea days, total respiratory illness days, days with runny nose, allergies, rashes, anorexia, missed parental work, antibiotic usage, doctor visits, child's mood and overall parental satisfaction with intervention.
