英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
Biomedical Research Focus in 25 words or less. Wildlife Toxicology Laboratory is contaminants, health & nutrition of subsistence use & wildlife. We are not solely research we are involved with diagnostics/problem solving.
FY 2006-2007 Lab/Research Plan:
With five Ph.D. students total and three in the WTL, none of them as candidates yet, our focus is on their research. With only a Laboratory Manager (0.5 FTE) as staff this is a large task for Rhonda and I.
We will focus on the development of animal models to assess Alaska relevant disease and/or toxicant concerns:
Arctic fox sampling (captive studies and sampling free ranging animals), Kirk and Knott Ph.D. projects
Arctic ground squirrel (possible model for assessing interactions of infectious agents and toxicants, relevance to Alaska is hepatitis virus and food borne toxicants).
Stickleback and zebra danio fish models (follow up to Bernhardt Ph.D.)
It is becoming clear the fox may be a cumbersome and expensive model and we cannot dependent on it alone.
Progress reports are dictated by:
Alaska INBRE (twice a year)
Faculty review processes
Annual reviews (for IAB, B&W, and Dean)
Promotion and Tenure documents
