This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. 4-Pi microscopy has become a powerful high-resolution technique for imaging cells and tissues. However, refractive index inhomogeneities present in these structures limit its performance. Our preliminary studies show that, our Hilbert phase microscopy can provide the refractive index information about the sample. This will help improve the tissue index matching and, thus, the overall 4-Pi microscopy performance.
