This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study is aimed at characterizing and comparing the three phenotypes of pre-diabetes to age, sex, and body mass index-matched people with normal glucose tolerance. Specifically, people with impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and both (IGT/IFG) will undergo extensive testing of their insulin secretion (via glucose step-up protocol) and insulin action (insulin clamp + stable isotopes) and compared to those with normal glucose tolerance (NGT).
