英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The long-term objective of this research is to use state-of-the-art, non-invasive, medical imaging methods to create a 4-dimensional (space and time), multi-variable atlas of the marmoset brain across the entire life-span -from birth, through development and maturation, to senescence -and to map the temporal profiles of derived variables into the temporal profiles of these same variables in humans. The motivation for this undertaking is to foster the development of the marmoset as a practical, primate model of aging. The marmoset is the smallest and shortest-lived new-world monkey, with a median life-span of -6 years. Despite its small size, the marmoset brain is remarkably complex, having all the major cytoarchitectonic regions present in larger, longer-lived, more-commonly studied primates, such as the macaque. In this study we will conduct PET and MR imaging on four common marmosets, ranging in age 1 day old to 5 years old, in order to demonstrate feasibility.
