This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study is being done to learn how the body responds to HIV infection and its treatment over several years. Examples of things the study will look at include: 1) What combinations of drugs work best over several years; 2) What factors determine the amount of blood cells (T cells) that help fight infection and HIV; 3) If the order in which combinations of drugs are given affects outcome; 4) What kinds of side effects and illnesses occur during long-term (4 or more years) treatment of HIV infection; 5) How many people experience these side effects and illnesses; and 6) How people with very low or undetectable levels of virus in their blood (viral load) for a long time compare with those whose viral load is higher.
