英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The Nutrition and Physical Activity Assessment Study (NPAAS) will be conducted within the Observational Study (OS) component of the Women?s Health Initiative (WHI), currently in an extension phase under IRB Protocol 04-EPID-486. The NPAAS will be conducted among postmenopausal weightstable women who are representative of OS women in age, body mass, and ethnicity; 48 study participants will be examined at the UNC center (540 at all participating sites). Participating women will complete the same food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and physical activity questions used at time of screening for WHI enrollment (1993-1998) in addition to other selected dietary and physical activity assessment instruments. In addition, they will follow a doubly-labeled water protocol to objectively assess total energy expenditure and an indirect calorimetry protocol to assess resting energy expenditure, thus yielding an objective assessment of activity-related energy expenditure. The expenditure of protein, sodium, and potassium will also be assessed from urine specimens, and the concentrations of various nutrients will be assessed in blood specimens. These data will be used to assess and contrast measurement properties of carefully selected nutrients and physical activity assessment tools and their combination, with an emphasis on: systematic bias as a function of body mass, ethnicity, age, and other individual characteristics; the magnitude of personspecific measurement errors; the correlation patterns among errors from differing assessment procedures; and the precision of nutrient consumption and activity-related energy expenditure estimates.
