This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The major goal of this project is to examine the neuropathophysiology of reasoning and decision-making in ADHD children, its modulation by stimulant medication, and whether it varies by dopamine genes. The striatal dopaminergic system has been implicated in ADHD and we would like to investigate this further. In a series of studies with ADHD and control subjects (Ages 7-25), we will examine brain function using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and behavioral function using laboratory experimental tasks during reasoning an decision-making. Further, we will examine whether individual differences in brain and behavior relate to polymorphism of dopaminergic genes including DAT1, DRD4, and COMT. Further, in subjects with ADHD, we will also examine whether brain and behavioral measures during reasoning and decision-making are sensitive to stimulant medication.
