This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The purpose of this study is to evaluate a diagnostic test that will help to determine whether certain proteins released by bacteria/cells in patients' mouths and around patients' gums can be used to determine periodontal disease progression. These proteins can be found in fluids in the mouth (such as the saliva). These proteins may help to predict bone loss around teeth before it is detected by a dental x-ray.'
