Our previous work showed that false discovery rates performed better than E-values. If a database accumulates random samples from all available sequences (the "population"), E-values by necessity increase, whereas false discovery rates are stable. During our previous work on improving iterative homology searches using false discovery rates in place of E-values, we discovered that no database was available for benchmarking our programs to document our progress. Accordingly, we developed an appropriate benchmarking domain database, MultiDomainBenchmark.
