英文摘要
The goal of this research supplement is to enhance the impact of the parent R01 by providing
an intensive, hands-on research experience to a highly motivated undergraduate student as the
student lays the groundwork for a career in the biomedical sciences. The research supplement
is designed to provide the candidate with critical experience in three areas: 1) Exposure to a
breadth of hands-on techniques described in the parent grant; 2) The chance to observe how
individual experiments and techniques are integrated to address a central question; and, 3)
Weekly practice and coaching in scientific communication. In addition, the candidate will be
provided with the mentorship, resources, and information necessary for her to make critical
early choices regarding further study. The aims of the parent grant will receive additional direct
benefit from the candidate assisting and performing experiments described in the research plan,
and as the candidate contributes intellectually to laboratory discussions.
