英文摘要
PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT
The Digestive Health Center (DHC) in Cincinnati is one of only 17 Silvio O. Conte Digestive Diseases
Research Core Centers (DDRCC) in the nation supported by the National Institutes of Diabetes & Digestive &
Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). The Cincinnati DHC was established as a NIDDK funded Digestive Diseases
Research Development Center in 2003 and became a NIDDK funded DDRCC center in 2007. The DHC,
located within Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, serves as a University of Cincinnati Academic
Health Center resource that has attracted new investigators to foster pediatric digestive disease research and
make significant discoveries to restore digestive health. As part of the Center’s enrichment program, the
leadership plans to host a scientific symposium for early-stage investigators pursuing digestive disease
research concurrently with hosting the 2023 Annual DDRCC Directors and Administrator meeting. This
program format will be similar to past meetings hosted by the following DDRCCs: University of Pennsylvania in
September 2018, University of California, San Francisco in February 2020, and Medical University of South
Carolina in October 2022. Because the DDRCC program is dedicated to fostering the growth of early-stage
investigators, these scientists will be the significant targeted audience of the symposium. Thirty-two early
career scientists (two from each of the other 16 DDRCCs) will be subsidized to attend the event and participate
by presenting their digestive disease work as either an oral presentation or poster format. Six investigators or
approximately 20% will be selected based on their submitted abstracts to present their work as a 10-minute
talk with 10 minutes for questions and feedback. The symposium will include opportunities for career
development, mentoring and networking opportunities for the early-stage investigators. The DDRCC directors
meeting portion will focus on fostering collaborations among centers, sharing best practices for leading a
successful center, and enhancing diversity and inclusion. All attendees will have an opportunity to learn about
the cutting-edge digestive disease scientific programs and research core technology services that are available
at the Cincinnati DDRCC as well as the other 16 centers. The DHC is requesting an administrative
supplement to project number P30 DK078392 to organize and host the meeting/symposium. Funds will be
used to secure a venue and offset travel expenses for invited speakers and early-stage investigators.
