The requested cryogenic freezer chest can store biological samples at -150 oC. No liquid nitrogen is required to keep stored samples at this temperature. At -150 oC, no ice re-crystallization will occur from within and outside samples and the biological activities of the sample are thus arrested. Samples can then be analyzed at a later time or re-analyzed to validate the data reproducibility. The requested equipment is a general-purpose tool that can store biological samples for an extensive period of time. Yeast samples harvested from a fuel alcohol production process will be stored in the requested freezer. These samples will be used to carry out whole-cell gene expression and protein expression profiling, attempting to probe yeast physiological variations under a dual osmotic (due to high sugar concentration) and inhibitory (due to high ethanol level) effect. Consequently, a control strategy can be developed to alleviate this adverse effect, toward the designing of a high ethanol-yield process for fuel alcohol industry.
