My research is in algebra, more specifically, group theory. It is a mathematical system consisting of a set of objects (numbers, functions, permutations, matrices or set of words in a given alphabet) and a rule (binary operation) that combines two objects to give another object (think of addition, multiplication, composition of functions or juxtaposition of words) in a well defined way. Such systems are found in just about every area of mathematics. Used as a tool to study complex problems, abstract algebra has found many applications in codes, combinatorics and geometry.
