The requested support from the proposed NSERC RTI application will be used to purchase a high performance Integrated Thermal Wind Tunnel. This equipment will be extensively used in the currently ongoing researches as well as upcoming research plans for the doctoral and the MASc programs to study the novel thermal management and natural energy conservation systems. The most practical thermal engineering analysis that are planned to be conducted with this equipment include, but are not limited to, (1) the Study of the fundamental issues in characterizing Microchannel Heat Exchangers (MCHX) at various operating conditions using different single phase working fluids like water, ethylene glycol, transmission oil, CO2 and air for a variety of channel sizes & geometries, and orientations, (2) Characterizing performance output of airfoil for smaller size urban vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) with predefined conditions for conserving natural energy resources, (3) study the effect of Pin Fin Flapping on the heat transfer from a surface, (4) investigate the thermal effect of oxide coating on aluminum alloy, water evaporation behavior, and odor smell reduction, and (5) create an environment for the analysis of the electrical and electronic systems to design a novel data acquisition system for flow visualization studies using different techniques.
