Data security and privacy is critically important. An innovative product, a specialized Universal Serial Bus (USB) flash drive, called ITS Key, can be plugged into a computer to communicate with its central secure server to allow users to encrypt, access and share their files. However, as an ITS Key plugs into a USB slot on the host machine and appears to be a USB storage device, its users often confuse it with a storage device, and tend to store files on it. This confusion can cause privacy concerns, as sensitive files can be accidentally copied onto an ITS Key. A major confusion comes from the fact that files on an ITS Key are displayed on the host machine just like files on a USB storage device. Therefore, this project will propose, design and prototype new techniques to hide such files from users to create the illusion of an empty device, and prevent unwanted writes to an ITS Key.
