As the global trend to reduce energy consumption continues to build, the mining industry will be required to develop new and innovative approaches for processing of mineral deposits. Comminution, the process of crushing and grinding ore to liberate valuable minerals, is the most energy intensive part of the processing flowsheet and accounts for upwards of 75% of the overall energy consumption of the processing plant. Therefore in order to help reduce the overall energy requirements for mineral processing, focus should be directed on improving the energy efficiency of comminution.
