Transient stability constrained optimal power flow applied to large power systems

The power systems nowadays are operating closer to their stability limits. As a result, the stability phenomena such as angular and voltage stability have become more and more serious issues. Traditionally, the production planning tasks such as Optimal Power Flow calculations (OPF) are decoupled from the stability analysis. However, due to the growing concern about system stability, the combination of these two tasks in the production planning process has been observed recently. In this new framework, not only the OPF problem has to tackle static constraints such as power balance and voltage/reactive power limits, the optimization procedure also has to ensure that the optimal operating point remains stable following some typical system contingencies.
