Canadian companies and government agencies make huge investments in customer service, with a large portion of that investment allocated to human call center agents for handling transactions and providing information. The work force in these call centers consists of a very large number of agents with a relatively relatively short tenure of employment. Furthermore, for each agent hired, there is a need to perform language proficiency assessment for nearly 10 candidates. Hence, there is an essential need to develop interactive automated products and services for assessing language proficiency to reduce the demand on human evaluators.
