This proposal is for a flow control system with which to meter the fuel and air entering low-emission, fuel-flexible gas turbine combustors. Gas turbine engines are used on the vast majority of aircraft, and also are increasingly employed for terrestrial power generation. As we attempt to push these engines towards lower pollutant emissions, the energy-releasing combustion processes become increasingly sensitive and unstable. This problem is compounded if various alternative fuels, having various physical and chemical properties, are to be employed. Safely designing these engines for low-emission, fuel-flexible operation therefore requires improved understanding and control of these complex combustion processes.
