Conestoga Cold Storage (CCS) provides cold warehousing and distribution services to companies serving the Canadian and international frozen food industries. CCS has five fully-automated cold storage warehouses across Canada that depend on 'shuttle' devices to transport large packages into, within, and then out of their facilities. However, CCS' current shuttle configuration has proven incapable of consistently handling heavy loads; significant deflection often leads to excessive deformation and failure to support large packages. Packages that fall off the shuttle not only sustain damage, but cause operational shutdown and extremely difficult retrieval efforts. Also failures frequently occur at bearings, chains and welded joints.
