In order for a cell to grow and divide, it must copy its genetic content. In cells such as plant and animals, many of the factors that regulate the copying of genetic material are the same as are found in yeast used in baking bread or brewing beer. The Davey lab uses the excellent genetic and biochemical tools available in yeast to ask fundamental questions about the control of cell division and the copying of genetic material. In this proposal, they will examine the interactions of an essential protein required for to control when the genetic material will be copied. They will determine what interactions occur, what parts of the protein are required for the interaction and how these interactions affect activities in the cell. Together, these studies will reveal the interaction network that helps control this key step in the growth and division of cells.
