My lab focuses upon understanding the biological basis of individual variation in behaviour in general and aggression in particular. My work has examined how variation in aggression i) evolves, ii) is tied to genetic variation, and iii) is tied to brain structure and function. I have shown that models of aggressiveness predict individual differences in aggressiveness that must be set at an early stage in development if they are to be evolutionarily stable. In agreement with this, empirical studies suggest that adult variation in aggressiveness is organized by differing exposure to testosterone while in the womb.
