Firstly, in eye development, we wish to understand the role of short and long term optical changes. We will a) characterize the optical signals to eye growth; b) model i) normal and abnormal growth and ii) the daily fluctuation of optical properties and c) determine the mechanisms which underlie these rapid optical changes. Secondly, we will improve imaging of the rear of the eye in animals and humans using a) adaptive optics and fluorescence imaging in small animals and b) polarization imaging in the eye and tissues.
